From an opinion piece on nature as a luxury we actually can't live without:

For a very long time, conservationists have been portrayed as misanthropists, caring more for animals than other human beings. But human rights and preservation of the environment are complementary.

Yes.

Watched a very silly but pretty entirely entertaining SF superhero Bollywood film last night (the first ever superhero Bollywood film), Krrish. The dance number with the Bombay Circus was the best one.

And just cause, what I've read so far this year, with things I thought especially good in bold.

Indigara – Tanith Lee
The Rabbi’s Cat – Joann Sfar
Gentleman of the Road – Michael Chabon
The Yiddish Policeman’s Union – Michael Chabon
A Companion to Wolves - Elizabeth Bear & Sarah Monette
Dust – Elizabeth Bear
The Pinhoe Egg – Diana Wynne Jones
Selling Out – Justina Robson
Criminal Minds: Jump Cut – Max Allan Collins
Fragile Things – Neil Gaiman
Howl’s Moving Castle – Diana Wynne Jones
Castle in the Air – Diana Wynne Jones
Year of the Griffin – Diana Wynne Jones
Unexpected Magic – Diana Wynne Jones
Captain Alatriste – Arturo Perez-Reverte
Waking Brigid – Francis Clark
Mortal Love – Elizabeth Hand
The Somnambulist – Jonathan Barnes
Shadows Return – Lynn Flewelling
Victory of Eagles - Naomi Novik
Wicked Gentlemen - Ginn Hale

Currently I'm reading E. Bear's New Amsterdam and liking it plenty, though I'm beginning to notice that I really prefer her male protagonists to the female ones (except in Dust, where I like the female protags a lot); there's a certain brittle super woman full of themselves-ness to the female protags of Whiskey and Water, Blood and Iron, and New Amsterdam, that I don't really like. And I'm already wanting more Jack and less Garrett in New Amsterdam. But I love the setting and her writing in this one.
