pot luck with Phyllis & Mr.

The pot luck was about half an hour out of town, in the Westlake Hills. A wooden house nestled in a crook of hill, deep in trees and vines. Lots of outside space, feeling a little like an African safari camp; citronella candles in buckets and many smaller candles glimmering deep in the greenery, strings of lights in the vines and trees. Bunch of folks I didn't know, but all older than the usual bunch of hip music scene kids, many actually older than me, a pleasant change. Lots of art (one of the residents a potter/ceramics artist). Good food, of course, and something called seafood shooters which we were told came from Martha Stewart. The recipe is here but ours definitely had vodka in them. They were very good. We toasted poor Martha with them.
