Sep. 10th, 2003 09:41 amCurses. As a member of the Austin Film Society I was notified among the first of the opportunity to go to tonight's regional premiere of Once Upon a Time in Mexico but was too slow to get over to the site and and buy my freaking tickets. They were sold out. So here it is, it's tonight. My boss is going. She says she's hoping Johnny D will be a surprise guest. He's not scheduled, however, just Robert Rodriguez, our own hometown celebrity director. This is from the Austin American Statesman, on JD's happy experience working with him:
Johnny, the crowd-pleaser
A swashbuckling appearance by Johnny Depp, above, at the Venice International Film Festival on Thursday helped boost the mood after last-minute cancellations from key crowd-pleasers, reports MSNBC.com.
The star of "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" jetted into the Lido to join Salma Hayek and director Robert Rodriguez in support of Miramax's "Once Upon a Time in Mexico," which was set to screen Thursday night.
Depp said that working with Rodriguez had been one of his best acting experiences.
"It was the first time I have (gone) . . . to the director after we finished and said, `Are you sure there is nothing else we can shoot?' "
If he was to show up tonight (I really don't think he will) I would probably turn green and explode.
