The 5K is done, done, done, woven in, smoothed and polished. Yay. A last check tomorrow morning and off the newly 60,400+ word version of the novel goes.
As a reward I get to go see Underworld tonight with Chadster.
Brief report on the Turkey City party last night (I took a sabbatical from the workshop this time, but went to the party). Well rested and pleased about not having done the workshop, I showed up too early, as they went very late and had just decamped to dinner. I talked with Nancy, Bruce's wife, who's a very good egg, and eventually people started showing up. I helped Bruce arrange the munchables he came back with and heard from him how he thought the workshop went, and etc. Saw some folks I like and had fun conversations with them, including hearing from Howard what "tampion" means--his definition wasn't actually in the dictionary and involved hibernating bears--met John Kessel (who is ridiculously tall) and had a great celebration of solidarity with him about academic "lit" fiction creative writing programs and their attitude to "genre." (He runs such a program at a university and yet writes sf&f) Liked him a lot. Watched a portion of a ridiculously over the top Bollywood movie about chemical apocolypse and international criminals, complete with dance numbers of course, watched the chaotic convection patterns that Tia Maria makes in creme with Bruce, ate a lot of chocolate and marzipan and some sushi (in that order, yes), and sailed (okay, drove) home on the resultant buzz a bit after midnight, pleased with the whole thing.
Not a bad weekend, even if I did spend all of today sitting at my computer.
