For those who are at all local, though I suspect none of you can make it for various reasons, the book signing and reading of The Z Radiant at Book People is this Monday evening at 7 pm. There will be food, drink, entertainment (in the form of me reading), a prize drawing, and the proverbial free stuff. Woohoo, say I. Woohoo! Plus I believe there should be a little author interview with me in the Sunday Austin American Statesman.
Finally got more bookmarks printed at work yesterday, despite epic struggles with the printer. Was pleasantly cheered on by chat with Alyx and Kellstar.
Last night was dinner with my awesome friend Katherine, come to visit to be here for the reading, and our pal Marla, at Azul Tequila, where the mole and pipian sauces are very very good, the mango 'ritas cold and sweet, and the packed crowd claps, sings, and sways to the very swayable sounds of Mariachi Relampago. You can pretty much completely forget that the restuarant is located in a strip mall next to a Target.
Later on in the night, there was much lightning in the sky, and then rain! Rain, in August. This is amazing. We got some hail here, too, I could hear it clipping on the tin awning above my balcony. With windows open to wind and the sound and smell of rain, curtains blowing, my little home felt like a ship at sea.
Ground wet, the construction site that is my home was quiet this morning, no workers or machinery. (Yes, they normally work on Saturdays, too.)
Katherine is off to the Paisano Ranch today and tonight, to do researchy things with Marla for the chapter they're writing in a book about the ranch. I will errand and suchlike.
