The Life Aquatic--this movie double bills with I Heart Huckabees as my favorite movies of 2004. It's brilliant, wonderful, odd, beautiful, weird, and lovely.

Singularity Sky by Charles Stross--very joyously imaginative wham bang science fiction, which I rec especially to douglain, as well as others, because it has political and political-economic content up the wazooski.
