Jul. 1st, 2005 12:44 pmHAPPY BIRTHDAY
timalyne!!!
Happy Canada Day oh my wonderful Canadians! I took the day off from my job to celebrate you! (and to have a four-day weekend)
Just read an essay by Emma Bull, from Double Feature on why she writes fantasy/sf, which starts by recounting a part of a convo with her father in which he asks her if she thinks she'll ever write something that's not fantasy, something serious, in other words, realistic. Her quote of this convo was almost verbatim a convo I've had with my father a few times. Here's a quote from the essay, which is more or less her answer to the broader question:
When we insist that growing up means living only in the real world, we're shooting ourselves in the collective foot.
