So, the birthday was relaxed and loungeful. Around 11:30 am Pam & Chad, Nadia, and Chad's sister Sharon and her girlfriend Holly (freshly returned from vacationing on Vancouver Island) came over, with breakfast tacos and scones. I made a big fruit salad, juice, coffee, and tea, and we all munched brunch and gabbed, watching the trains periodically come in and out of the train yard, for about 2 and a half hours. Very pleasant. There were a few presents, a lovely ornamental iron three hook plaque from Nadia, a beautiful 5 ceramic bowl and chopstick set from Pam and Chad as a housewarming pres, and then a cd from them as a bday present--The Friends of Dean Martinez, a band I quite like (described sometimes as the house band in a ghost town saloon). Huzzah!
After they all left I puttered a bit, then napped, then read some of the stories for the ArmadilloCon writing workshop section I am teaching in, then watched some television, The 4400, which has been pretty good, and The Dead Zone, which I generally like, but am still not thrilled by. There really is no appointment television in my life right now. Then I read some more and eventually went sleepward.
Not having internet access at home, along with having a zillion things I have to do while I'm at work, is really slowing down my lj action. Hopefully the promised broadband being set up through the condo's homeowner's association will materialize soon.
Tonight is more bday action, celebrating with the kids at Nadia & Casey's. Birthdays ALWAYS require chocolate cake as far as they're concerned.
