...was a success, I believe. Headcount taken by Katherine was 40; the bookstore sold all but six copies. Everyone who said anything to me said I did a good job with the reading. The white sangria (white wine, apricot brandy, lemonade) Nadia made certainly helped make people happy. Plus yummy food. The prize drawing made everyone laugh, as it was supposed to, and I actually got a couple laughs for my 'opening remarks' (mostly about the cover) and at an appropriate place in the actual reading.
It was just really gratifying that all these people came out, including some lj folks who I got to meet face to face. Thank you, panisdead ('Hoss' is a beautiful guy--you and your hub made a swell baby), shellmidwife, and rusty76 for coming.
Also gratifying: hearing that one of the cashiers really liked the book. Hearing that anyone really liked the book. That's just the very best thing.
So, home town reading was a success. Yay!
I cannot imagine making this much effort over and over in towns where I don't know anyone. Good lord. I am hugely relieved that it's done, over, completed.
