Sunday I finally went to see Talk to Her. Best movie I've seen in a long time.

There's this thing that happens in a certain kind of really good movie and I think it's at least half the reason I love movies. As the story and the world draw you in, the orchestrations of the film's visual and aural life saturate your senses; you don't really notice because you're involved with the story and the characters, but when you come out of the film, your sense are heightened, hyper aware. The quality of the light, depth of field, sense of the atmosphere; the movement of your own body through space; the cadence and rhthym of voices, hum of electricity in a back hallway, cruch of gravel under footsteps, it's all rarefied, magical...it's definitely like a drug experience, a really clean one. Talk to Her created that experience, and the movie was good, too--it only works, somehow, if the movie is enjoyable.

After the movie, Phyllis and I went to Dolce Vita where I had an amaretto and she had an espresso and a piece of chocolate almond torte. Most agreeable. They have 115 liqueurs on their menu and we decided we should start going there regularly in order to start going through the list. Alas, no kitron.

Today on the walk to work I saw two men in florescent vests running across traffic to their City of Austin Utilities truck where they hopped in and tore out, racing away to what must have been a five-alarm utilities catastrophe.
