rolling fields so thick w/bluebonnets they're solidly carpeted blue-violet, huge splashes of tangerine-red or pink-red indian paintbrush & pale pink evening primrose & then the places where they all mix together with sprinkles of gold & yellow added in

huge pale sky, sheeting light, 1000 greens of thick grasses, trees & shrub & scrub & oaks of the chapparal
and then the yucca in full bloom like cubist fountains in dark green & champagne white
winds so high cars often sail about in their lanes, grasses rippling like seaweed in a riptide...
later, sky so blue blue blue

ocean! saltmarsh & scrub-covered dunes
claening beach in cold, strong wind...tired, motel, sort of sleep (kids not so interested in sleeping)
beach beach beach, sun, langour...hungry!
very cool sculptures of sea turtles and castles; ours of nesting hole in sand, eggs and baby turtles heading for sea--got stepped on several times by kids, once by totally oblivious Casey, but was fun to do
the drive home, more langour, music, pretty landscape, glad to be home...
