A very lovely day it was. Veggie (roasted eggplant and carrots) tamales at Las Manitas, with a tomatillo creamcheese sauce with raisens and walnuts. And Barton Springs...there's a reason it's considered Austin's crown jewel. The huge spring fed pool, always 64 (or 62?) degrees (farenheit), water clear, water plants waving in the coral and limestone bottom, where little salamanders live. Lush green hillside rising up on either side, shaded by tall spreading pecans and oaks, breeze and sun and shadow, the mess of humans, all kinds. Pam and I met up with our friends Margaret, an indie filmmaker, Katie, who writes at Texas Monthly along with Pam, and Dawn, who works in the indie film industry in Austin. They are, along with Pam, all women I adore, funny, smart, cute, hot, creative, goofy. So, it was a very very good afternoon. Sweat, plunge in the water, splash, swim, play, get out, lounge under the trees, efficiently cooled off to hang for a good long time before replunging, read, chat, giggle, laugh. We all agreed we should do this every Sunday; it would be awesome if we really did, but it's a busy bunch, so we'll see.
